A Better Life Through Wellness

Health is a condition where illness and infirmity are absent where disease and impairment are present. The word “healing” is often used in place of the word “well.” This can be defined as an active process to restore a normal condition from a state of lowered quality. People who have health problems usually have high expectations of their own capacities to get better.

The goal of having good health is that one’s well-being and physical health are balanced. Health is associated with aspects of both mind and body. To have a healthy mind and body, it is necessary to have good nutrition, regular exercise, and a well-balanced diet. In the light of the definition of “healing,” it becomes clear that mental health and well-being are interrelated and dependent on each other.

The best way to improve your mental health is to adopt a healthy diet that consists of natural foods. A good diet is believed to help maintain a healthy brain because of the nutrients provided by vitamins, minerals, and other dietary elements. These nutrients contribute to the maintenance of brain cells, synapses, neurons, nerve cells, hormones, and blood vessels. People who developed countries have developed a healthy diet, unlike those in underdeveloped countries acquiring a low number of such nutrients from their diets.

Mental wellness depends a lot on the proper functioning of the four major neurotransmitters, namely, serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and GABA. The function of these neurotransmitters is to transmit information from the brain to the different parts of the body. Studies show that the amount of these neurotransmitters in the brain is related to the overall levels of mental health and physical well-being. The improvement of your mental state and physical well-being can greatly depend on the nutrient content of your diet, and it can also depend on the types of food you consume. A good diet has a balanced mixture of nutrients, including those needed to develop the brain.

People who develop a severe mental illness or other physical ailments may be at risk of developing physical illness simultaneously. Poor nutrition can weaken the immune system and make you more susceptible to diseases. If your mind is healthy, your body will be healthy. It is advisable to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and regular exercise to prevent serious health problems that can include physical illness or disability.

Many people in developed countries live unhealthy lives that usually include a sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits, and poor nutritional habits. All these contribute to the weakening of the immune system, resulting in various illnesses ranging from simple colds to major illnesses like cancer and cardiovascular disease. These conditions can cause a lot of pain and suffering. There is no doubt that good physical well-being contributes a lot to mental well-being. Hence, physical well-being should be given more importance than any other kind of wellness approach. This means that physical fitness should be taken as a priority to promote good health.

Life expectancy is one indicator of the level of health one has. In developed countries, life expectancy is below the national average. This means that the lives of people living in such countries are short. This is because they are not physically active and do not have a good diet. Life expectancy could also be affected by the type of health education a person receives or whether he/she is exposed to unhealthy media like cigarettes and tobacco.

Being healthy means being happy. The quality of life of a person can be determined by how he/she feels every day. In developed countries, people in poor health live a hard life. They suffer from ill health and low morale because of the social stigma attached to poor health conditions. They are made fun of in school and work and are likely to have low self-esteem.
