The Life Course Approach Towards Health Promotion

The Life Course Approach Towards Health Promotion

Health is a condition of mental, physical, and social well-being where infirmity and disease are absent. The total physiological, psychological, and social conditions affect individuals to cope with life as best they can. It consists of the mind, body, and spirit. Health is of crucial importance to all people for the preservation of their life span. As everyone grows old, there comes a time when health conditions need attention, and some changes are required.

Certain diseases affect the body in all age groups, and one such dangerous disease is High Blood Pressure. High Blood Pressure is the excessive demand for the vital force from the heart. This may damage the blood vessels or be accompanied by other problems like fainting or coma. Some symptoms of High Blood Pressure include dizziness, breathlessness, increased heartbeat, sweating, and numbness. Young children should get themselves fitted for a medical specialty after completing primary school to take proper health precautions.

Another important area of concern is Mental Health. Mental health is related to the person’s ability to live a good life and cope with day-to-day challenges. Mental health can be affected by either physical or mental diseases. Mental disorders range from depression, bipolar disorder to anxiety. Many changes occur in the lives of individuals during periods of a mental health crisis and the first stages of recovery.

The term “defined health” means having a standard level of total physical and mental health. Health is considered as the proper functioning of the entire body. When there is a lack of balance and harmony in an individual’s body system, it results in poor health. Health is defined as the proper functioning of all systems in the body, including the brain, muscular, nervous, digestive, and circulatory.

Just as good health ensures good health, they are two different concepts, and the latter is more important than the former. Good physical fitness and a fit and fine body figure are prerequisites for individuals to lead an active lifestyle and maintain good health. Health at any age can be maintained through a combination of healthy eating, regular exercises, cessation of vices like alcohol and tobacco, and a good, balanced diet. A healthy diet can help provide nutrients and other necessary vitamins and minerals to the body system and contribute to overall health.

The National Health Service (NHS) is an example of a good body-wide public health institution. Apart from taking care of the sick and the physically disabled, the NHS also takes care of the mentally healthy through prevention and promotion of good health. There is a growing awareness about the hazards of some common diseases and their consequences on the human body. Hence, steps are being taken to highlight the importance of prevention and public health. This service aims to promote health among all sections of society through early diagnosis and timely treatment.

Public health management is an ongoing activity, and prevention remains the primary aim of its administrators. It aims at improving the quality of life by keeping the population fit, healthy, and physically active. Prevention encompasses a range of activities, including promoting community and inter-group communication, promoting healthy nutrition, maintaining clean environments, educating about physical problems, and ensuring access to basic health services. Managing the disease is one of the major objectives of the public health sector.

Older adults are at a higher risk of contracting many communicable diseases. Various programs focus on preventing and treating common communicable diseases in elderly adults. The National Health Services (NHS) and local community-based agencies are the organizations that focus on life-course strategies for preventing diseases in older adults.
